BUFFALO SOLDIER FILE

Long on the National Team radar but unlucky with injuries, Cory Gibbs took advantage of a 2003 injury to Eddie Pope and established himself as an up and coming central defender for the National team.

Originally from the Ft. Lauderdale area, Cory went on to star at Brown University where he was a three-time All Ivy League Selection, the Ivy League Player of the Year and All-American in 2000. He also appeared on the U20 side while in college.

After college, he bypassed MLS and went to little known FC St. Pauli a club in the German 2nd division and filled in their right back slot as they gained promotion to the Bunesliga. Gibbs acquitted himself well in St. Pauli's one season in the top German league before being relegated back to the 2nd division.

After another solid year at St. Pauli, Gibbs was called into the 2003 Confederations and Gold Cup camps demonstrating a knowledge of the game and an agressive style.

Was named to the 2006 World Cup side but had to withdraw with a knee injury. But he should remain in the US' plans for awhile.
