KANSAS CITY WIZARDS

Amazing that this team is still in KC given their sorry attendance and relative lack of success. Luckily for the few soccer fans that exist in KC, the late Lamar Hunt was almost as big a soccer fan as he was of football and was determined to make soccer work in the Midwest. His and their reward was the first championship in Kansas City since...well I don't know when.

However, KC has had difficulty duplicating that success. Despite the presence of former MVP Preki, the Wizards have not had had a consistent scorer in years which puts tremendous pressure on US International Jimmy Conrad, Kevin Hartman and the rest of the defense.

There are solid players but Jose Burciaga, Jr. and Scott Sealy will have to provide some goals for KC.

No, I'm not Gilbert Arenas.

KC's most recognizable brother was probably Vitalis "Digital" Takawira from Zimbabwe who was an early All star and did this goal celebration where he got on all fours and crawled along the sideline. Uche Okafor was one of MLS' best defenders in its first few seasons. Roy Lassiter & Wolde Harris both had a brief stays in America's heartland. Eddie Johnson arrived from Dallas to stake his claim at the front of the attack but Scott Sealy has really been the best striker for KC over the past couple of seasons.
Bottom line:
If a team wins a championship and there is no one there to celebrate, does it really happen? Apparently the answer is yes and if they can get some consistent scoring, it might happen again.
