GOLNOIR
PAULO WANCHOPE
The most recognized Costa Rican footballer, Paulo Wanchope spent several years in La Liga, Premireship and Nationwide League before signing with the Fire in 2007.
Wanchope started his career with Costa Rican side Herediano but was quickly snapped up by Derby County where by 1999 he had become known as a dependable striker in the Premiereship. A move to West Ham did nothing to damage that reputation as he scored double figure goals for the Hammers until being tempted by newly promoted Manchester City.
Although the partership with George Weah didn’t work out and City were relegated, he continued to score goals when he was healthy, even during the midst of a public dispute with former City Manager, Joe Royle. Injuries have always played a part of his time in England, but he has scored prolifically when healthy.
His speed and agility while dancing around defenders and his clinical finishing in the box could provide great scoring opportunities for Chicago as they reload.
Did you know: As a high school exchange student California, Paulo once dropped 47 points in a HS basketball game.
