PANAMA

music: Rubén Blades-Pedro Navaja

Like Cuba, baseball is probably the number one sport in this Central American country but the passion for the world's game is quickly catching on.

Though the Federdation has been around since the 30s, Panama did not attempt to qualify for the World Cup until qualification began for Argentina '78 but they have managed to make the semifinal round on a couple of occasions. Led by the Dely-Valdes twins, Jorge (ex-Rapids) and the more travelled Julio, this is definitely a side on the rise.

Bottom Line: Panama seems ready to ride the wave of football coarsing through its borders. Time will tell if their efforts pay off.
