CHRISTIAN MANFREDINI SISOSTRI
SS LAZIO

2001-02 was the break out season not only for Cheivo, which had a meteoric rise to the Italian top flight, but for the Ivory Coast born Christian Manfredini, who impressed enough to earn a move to one of Italy's top teams, Lazio.

Adopted by Italian parents at age 5, he began his career on the same Juventus youth side as Allesandro Del Piero. He bounced around Serie B (2nd division) and Serie C sides before helping Chievo earn promotion to the Serie A.

He has impressed with his work on the left side of midfield and has been watched by both the Ivory Coast and Italy. However, he turned down a chance to play for the Elephants, stating "I don’t remember my time in Africa and feel 100% Italian."

As Fabio Liverani has now been capped by Italy, Manfredini might be in Italy’s plans one day and be the 2nd Black to play for Italy, but for right now, he is concentrating on earning his spot at Lazio. Hopefully the Ultra, a racist section of Lazio's fans won't hinder his progress.
