Beasley leaves PSV permanently, headed to Glasgow Rangers

GLASGOW, Scotland (Ticker/Yahoo) - DaMarcus Beasley may be a little small at 5-7, but he is planning to make a big impression at Scottish powerhouse Rangers.

The Team USA outside midfielder signed a three-year deal with the Scottish Premier League club on Wednesday after flying into Glasgow following the national team's Gold Cup success at the weekend.

Beasley knows he will not be the biggest - or most powerful - player in the Scottish league, but insists fans will get value for the money.

"I'm a little small, but I'm fast, I like to get a touch of the ball, I like my left foot and I like to make things exciting," said Beasley after he was introduced to the media.

"I'll make runs and hopefully my style of football will suit the fans, and I can repay them for all the good things they've been saying about me so far."

The former Chicago Fire player joins Rangers from PSV Eindhoven, who paid around $3 million for him in 2004.

Beasley, who played for the United States at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, spent last season on loan at English Premiership Manchester City, and believes the time was right for a new challenge.

When Rangers showed an interest in signing him, Beasley sought advice from fellow American star Claudio Reyna, the former captain of the national team.

"I've got a couple of good friends who played at Rangers, Claudio Reyna and Michael Ball, and they had good things to say about the club. Claudio said being at Rangers is like being part of a massive family, everyone is nice, everything is first class.

"He had nothing bad to say about the club from the time he was here. He basically raised his family in Scotland. He told me it was a great move for me."

The 25-year-old Beasley admits the chance to play in the Champions League - Rangers enter at the second qualifying stage - also had a part to play in his decision to join the club.

"It's a big draw. I played two years in the Champions League with PSV and we had a great run in my first year," Beasley said.

"We went to the semifinal and no one thought we could do it. We were a small club compared to Real Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona and teams like that, so Rangers can do the same. I'm looking forward to starting that campaign. Hopefully we will qualify. I'm sure we will." Complete Story
