HOLLAND/NETHERLANDS

In soccer, the most famous phrase is probably "Jogo Bonito" or "The Beautiful Game", the term used to describe Brazil's style of play.

The second most famous, however maybe "Total Voetbol". The term was invented in the mid 70's by the orange clad National Team of the Netherlands, embodying the concept of all players being able to play all positions.

While great players such as Marco Van Basten, Dennis Bergkamp, Ruud van Nistelroy, Ronald and Frank DeBoer have all demonstrated their world class ability, above all of them is the great Johan Cryhuff one of the top 5 players of all time. He dominated the European scene with club side Ajax in the 70s and is one of the few to be mentioned with Diego Maradona and Pele as the greatest of all time.

Ajax is perhaps the most famous club side in Holland, having captured many domestic and continental honors and developing a youth system that has been emulated all over the world.

Many of Holland's Black community hails from the Caribbean island of Surinam and those born on the island or in Holland of Surinamese parents have featured for the Oranje. Ruud Guillet won multiple awards playing for Holland and on various teams in Italy. Players like Edgar Davids and Patrick Kluivert have made their marks on the international scene.
