Senegal's starting goalkeeper during their startling run to the 2002 World Cup quarterfinals, Tony Sylva is now starting regularly with Lille.

As a 20 year old, Tony signed with AS Monaco but rarely got much playing, though he won rave reviews while on loan with 2nd division Ajaccio. A move back to Monaco saw him climb the depth chart but never get the playing time he wanted, despite his displays for Senegal at the 2002 Nations Cup and World Cup.

A move to Lille and the opportunity for first team football will increase his visibility.
