William Gallas is quietly making a name for himself as one of Europe's best defenders.

The steady Chelsea player who was a member of France Euopean winning U-18 side made his first appearance with the full National side in October of 2002 in a European Cup qualifying game against Slovenia and has been as close to an automatic choice along France's back line since.

This has only helped his confidence and improved his play on the club level as he was named to the All-Premireship side in 2003.

William performed consistently well at the Euro2004 championships and looks to be a logical replacement for the retired Marcel Desailly.
