WES BROWN
MANCHESTER UNITED

A fine young defender that is incredibly relaxed on the ball and whose excellent performances alongside Dutch international Jaap Stam during the 2000/01 season and continued play on Manchester United's backline earned him a spot on the 2002 WC side.

Called a "World Class Defender" by his coach Sir Alex Fergueson, Brown has been with United since turning pro in 1996, debuting for the side in 1998.

An accomplished central defender, Brown gained a regular first team place at full-back where his pace and attacking instincts made him an ideal replacement for the injured Denis Irwin.

Brown received his first England cap against Hungary in Budapest and the youngster was a big part of the squad who won the Treble in 1999.

After losing the 00-01 season to a knee injury he became a regular member of United’s lineup and began to get callups for England debuting in March of 2001 against Albania and playing well along side Rio Ferdinand.

Though injury has stalled his international career, big things are expected from Wes Brown.
