Champions League Hymn

Home to some of the most prestigious leagues in the world (including the European Champions League, for which part of the theme plays in the background) the lure of big money, lush fields and passionate fans have brought the world's greatest players to clubs of England, Germany, Holland France and Italy. Players all over the world dream of playing for the likes of Italy's Juventus or AC Milan, Spain's Real Madrid or Barcelona, Engalnd's Manchester United or Liverpool or maybe German powerhouses like Bayern Munich and or Borussia Dortmund.

The great players of Europe read like a history of the game. Names like Franz Beckenbauer of Germany, Johan Cruyhuff of Holland, France's Michel Platini, Italy's Dino Zoff Bobby Moore of England.

Players from all over the world have played in such prestigious leagues like Italy's Serie A, England's Premiere League and Germany's Bundesliga. Argentina's Diego Maradona is still revered in Napoli, George Weah is the only player to hold African, European and World Player of the Year while playing in Italy. John Harkes of the US played an FA Cup Final with Sheffield Wednesday on the hallowed ground of Wembley Stadium.

Euorpean soccer does have its problems with racism, passport scandals and recently, drugs and outrageous transfer fees which threaten to drive lower clubs into oblivion but make no mistake, Europe the center of the football universe.

BLACK PLAYERS IN EUROPE

Black players have not only featured on some of the great club teams in Europe. Significant Black populations in countries like England, Holland and France have produced such respected players like Paul Ince, Ruud Gullit and Jean Tigana. Even countries with small Black populations such as Sweden's (Martin Dahlin) and Portugal (Eusebio) as well as some suprising countries like Poland's (Emmanel Olisdabe) and Germany (Gerald Asamoah) have begun to feature Black players. As players like Patrick Kluivert, Sol Campbell and Thierry Henry continue their great play for club and country, they will add themselves to the history of European football.
