ST. KITTS AND NEVIS

Another small Caribbean nation taking positive steps in the region is St. Kitts and Nevis.

As many other countries in the Caribbean, St. Kitts and Nevis can thank British sailors for both introducing the game to them and for being the first opponents of St. Kitts and Nevis "national team" made up of players from around the islands. Inter island rivalries midway through the 20th century until one by one other islands dropped out. St. Kitts joined the Caribbean football Union in 1978 and when Nevis gained independence, the two combined into one country, giving it the double named moniker is has today. The St. Kitts and Nevis Football Associaion was formed in 1990 & joined CONCACAF. Since then it has competed in the CFU Caribbean Shell Cup, finishing as high as fourth and reched the semifinal round in World Cup Qualifying.
