Ghana gets back on track with home win

ACCRA, June 22 (Reuters/Yahoo) - Portsmouth winger Sulley Muntari scored as Ghana reclaimed top spot in their World Cup qualifying group with a 2-0 home win over Gabon on Sunday.

Muntari got the second goal in the African qualifying zone Group Five match in Accra, the first time the Black Stars had played at the Ohene Djan stadium since their semi-final defeat in the African Nations Cup in February.

Striker Prince Tagoe put Ghana 1-0 up after 30 minutes as he flicked the ball on with his head and then ran past two defenders to score.

Muntari got the second goal with a close-range shot from Quincy Owusu-Abeyie’s cross.

Ghana stunned by Gabon, 2-0

Ghana's perfect start to their bid for place at the World Cup in 2010 came to an end in Libreville on Saturday when Gabon chalked a rare 2-0 win over their counterparts.

Roguy Mere opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, latching on to a pass from Eric Mouloungi. France-based Stephane Nguema scored the second in the 66th minute.

It was Gabon's first win of the qualifiers after they lost their opening match in Libya last week. Ghana, who competed at the last World Cup finals in Germany two years ago, remain top of the standings with six

The two sides meet next week in Ghana.

The other two teams in group 5, Lesotho and Libya, play in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

The game between Gabon and Lesotho, which should have kicked-off this campaign, has still to be played.
